The cover design for this book uses a striking image of a soldier on the ground and a bold headline title, reminiscent of old newspaper headlines announcing the breaking out of a war.
The title is placed in the sky to grab attention, bright against the image. The black-and-white photograph was firstly darkened to reflect the darkness of war, then applied a red wash, using the tone of the title's color, over the ground and soldier. The sky was washed very lightly in a golden yellow to contrast the red on the ground, chosen to enhance a fiery tone, and is also highlighted in a thin border around the titles and author's name.
